In Memory of Jasmine

It is very hard for me to write about the emptiness I feel inside without Jasmine by my side right now. This is why I choose insted to post a beautiful note that a wonderful being and friend wrote to me. I read this note daily and it helps me get through the day. I would like to share this with all of you to remember our Sweet Jasmine.

"Dear Catalina,

While you are in my thoughts, constantly, I wanted to give you the space I thought you needed. I will never presume to tell you how you should feel about the sudden loss of precious Jasmine but I will tell you how I feel.

You are miracle worker of the highest order, a force of nature and a complicated, deeply loving human being. Never in her lifetime could anyone else have given Jasmine the devotion, depth of compassion and love that she experienced with you. My greatest hope is that you will know this, believe this and feel it in your core. It is because of the vast openness of your enormous heart that you and Jasmine shared a bond that most people and creatures will never experience in their entire lives.

Jasmine taught you so much. You shared these teachings with everyone who came into contact with you. Your accomplishment of turning a dispicable act of cruelty into a beautiful love story of redemption and second chances is a lesson that will live on and on.

We will never forget Jasmine. She is now and forever the poster girl, who in one glossy photograph, challenged millions of people to question the treatment of animals, to reevaluate their own prejudices and to open their eyes to previously unknown, to them, horrors of dog fighting and rampant animal abuse. The world is a better place for Jasmine having been here.

Jasmine, sweet girl, is free. In the early evening I look at the sky and if there is a big, soft, billowy cloud rolling by I imagine Jasmine circling it twice and settling herself in for an afternoon snooze. After all, she has been running all day."
