Meet Our Volunteers

Recycled Love Rescue could not function without the help of some very special and dedicated people, our volunteers. It is through their hard work and dedication that we are able to help both animals and people. We have a wonderful group of volunteers who make Recycled Love Rescue function and be a very important service to our community.

If you would like to volunteer with our rescue, please fill out our volunteer application and send it to us right away. Someone will contact you within 24-48 hours of receiving this.

These are only some of the faces behind Recycled Love that make everything possible. They also want to share with you why they do what they do.

Emily and Oliver Janney

Oliver Janney and soon to be wife Emily love volunteering for Recycled Love. They have fostered many dogs and adore helping them find forever homes. They currently live in Pasadena , MD with their two dogs, Trixie and Humphrey.

Elizabeth Duer (Our Betsy)

I have been a volunteer with Recycled Love for the past 3 years. I have always loved animals and loved working with them. After our family dog passed away and I moved out on my own I wanted to get a dog but knew that I didn’t have the time to fully devote to raising a dog with my busy work schedule. However, I could act as a intermediary home for homeless animals before they found their forever homes. Over the past 3 years, I have fostered 6 dogs and 12 cats/kittens; I also maintain all adoption and veterinary records for the rescue as well. The passion of the Recycled Love volunteers is remarkable! I am endlessly amazed by the number of animals we save every year and the amount of hard, dedicated, and continuous time and energy that goes into this rescue. Recycled Love has achieved some astounding feats over the past 3 years because we rescue the animals that others cannot or will not: those with extreme medical issues, those severely neglected and abused, those no one believes can be saved. It is an absolute pleasure to be a Recycled Love volunteer! Betsy currently lives in Towson with her adopted dog, Gwen.

Lauren Klau

Lauren is a currently attending the University of Baltimore for her masters is Psychology and works full time for the University of Maryland School of Medicine as a researcher. During her spare time she enjoys spending time with friends and family. About 2 years ago she came across an ad on pet finder for a dog that was going to be put down but was rescued into a foster home. A few days later she dragged her boyfriend, Dave, out of the city to meet the dog and Lexi came home with them the next day! Lauren, Dave (her soon to be husband) and Lexi are a happy little family in Baltimore City trying to encourage and educate people about the love and compassion pittys can give to everyone!

Nancy Johnson

Four and a half years ago, Sally Jennings asked to foster a puppy for Recycled Love. I enjoyed the experience and found it to be so rewarding that I continued fostering. Since that time, over 25 dogs have come and gone from my home. I have had young puppies, senior dogs and a full range in between. There have been healthy dogs, sick dogs and others that have had special needs. All of them have touched my life in a way that I will always remember. In the beginning, I thought that I was just taking care of the dogs but it wasn’t long before I realized that they were taking care of me as well.

Krissy Kraczkowsky and Nate Readal

Krissy and Nate

NateReadal and Krissy Kraczkowsky have been fostering dogs with RecycledLove since August 2008. They fell in love with bully breeds afteradopting their first pit-mix, Daisy Dukes from the city shelter in2006. A year later, they expanded their family by rescuing Blueberry, aStaffordshire Terrier. Nate and Krissy loved their rescued dogs somuch, they wanted to extend that love to other pit bulls by becoming afoster home. They chose to foster with Recycled Love because of theirefforts to give all homeless animals, particularly bully breeds, asecond chance at a better life.

While fostering for RecycledLove, Nate and Krissy have had the pleasure of watching their fosterdogs transition from the harsh and sad conditions of their previouslives to become well-adjusted, wonderful dogs who find incredibleforever homes. Although the departure of a foster dog isheart-wrenching (Krissy cries every time!), they take comfort inknowing that more dogs will spend their nights in a warm home with thelove and care they deserve.

Rene Watkins and Lauren Debelius

Rene and Lauren's Love

"Inthe winter of 2007, we decided that we wanted to bring another dog into our lives. We had recently put our longtime companion, Spike, tosleep and knew that our Red Tick Coonhound Casey was lonely. Renewanted to adopt but Lauren was more hesitant and offered the suggestionof acting as foster mommies to a dog.

After a quick internetsearch, we found Recycled Love and were immediately enthralled withtheir hard work, dedication and immense love for homeless and needypets in Baltimore. We fostered a little puppy, Holly, until she foundher forever home and then soon felt the void of only having a one doghousehold again. Within months, we had Sable, a brindle pit bull, atour doorstep coming to us as a foster. Needless to say, her big browneyes and charming wit captured our hearts and she quickly became ournew family member.

Sadly, we aren't able to foster any moredogs in our small, city townhouse, but we recognize the importance ofwhat Recycled Love does for hundreds of animals and are committed tohelping them achieve their goals. Lauren transports and visits lonelydogs in various animal hospitals and Rene is always sending emailalerts to friends and family and is at home begging to make anotherdonation. We are both so excited to join the new Pit Bull Advocatesgroup at Recycled Love and look forward to many more years of providinglove to needy animals in Baltimore.

Thank you for all thatyou do, Recycled Love. Not only do you change the lives of the animalsyou save, but you forever change the hearts of the ones who love them.Keep up the great work!"

Tom Soul and Kathy Homan

Tom and Kathy

Tom Soul and Kathy Homan met while walking their rescued Pit Bulls intheir Parkville neighborhood. Kathy tried to avoid meeting other dogswhile walking Gracie but when she saw how cute Tom was she took a risk. The two dogs didn't get along but Tom and Kathy had a nice conversationand she invited him to meet the puppies she was fostering at her house.Tom had been searching for a way to help dogs. He learned by saving thelife of his own dog Phoebe, how badly abused Pit Bulls were and wantedto do more. Kathy quickly spun her web around Tom, offering him freshcookies and home cooked meals. The two of them started helping at alocal rescue's adoption events and before long they were a couple. Fouryears later they have a total of seven rescued Pits, own the Happyhound Hotel in Hanover, PA and are engaged to be married. They plan tohelp as many dogs as possible and live happily ever after doing it.

Kelly Buzzard

My name is Kelly, and from the time I remember I have always LOVED

animals. Any kind really, but I have a special bond with dogs. I was

never able to have a dog until I was older and as soon as I could I

adopted my first dog. I found Lola, my first dog running in the street

near Loch Raven Blvd. I stopped my car out of fear I would hit her and

I opened my car dog and she jumped in! I tried to find her family, but

was never able to locate them. She's been with me ever since. As I

said, I've always had a love for dogs, but the love for rescue and

adoption came after I acquired her. She has blessed my life in so many

ways and has brought me such happiness that I would have never known

if I didn't open my home and heart to a "stray".

I joined Recycled Love as a foster for Hogan. I had a neighbor who was

friends with Sally Ann Jennings the original founder of Recycled Love.

Hogan was dropped off at my door one day, and he was so skinny and in

need of so much love we just couldn't help ourselves and we adopted

him. Hogan has been such a great addition to our family. My husband

and Hogan have such a special bond, I feel they were made for each

other.

I am very passionate about adoption, fostering, or volunteering in any

way possible. These animals do not have a voice of their own and they

need our help. They need someone to stand up for them and give them

the life they deserve. I also believe YOU need THEM, as much as THEY

need YOU!!!

Joanne Wigod

I have volunteered for animal shelters and rescues for more than 15 years.  I have always loved animals and have had animal companions my entire adult life.  In January 2008, I felt compelled to answer a Recycled Love ad looking for a cat foster.  I became hooked.  Since then I have fostered a few animals, but have expanded my volunteer activities with Recycled Love to include adoption events, advertising , fund raising and home visits.

Volunteering with Recycled Love has been an emotionally rewarding, although sometimes bitter sweet activity.  There is just so much that needs to be done.  I have made wonderful friends and know I have directly impacted the lives of so many deserving dogs and cats.  One small black cat foster, now named Michelle has become a permanent member of my cat family: Buster, Seymour and Elvis.
